MLB Shohei Ohtani hits his 39th solo home run, the first to lead off the winning run in two consecutive games! He’s on pace to hit 50 home runs a year, which puts him on track to hit an unprecedented 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases!
Shohei Otani is on pace to hit 50 home runs this year! The first-inning, winning solo home run, No. 39, will be an unprecedented “50 home runs and 50 stolen bases!”
◇National League Dodgers 2-1 Cardinals (August 18, 2024, St. Louis) Dodgers pitcher Shohei Otani (30) started as the leadoff hitter and designated hitter in the away game against the Cardinals on the 18th (August 19th, Japan time). He contributed to the 2-1 victory with 1 hit and 1 RBI in 5 at-bats, including his 39th solo homer, his second in a row, to score the team’s first run of the game. This home run put him on pace for 50 home runs for the year. It blew away the “Freeman Shock.” Freeman, who was the mainstay of the batting line-up, injured the middle finger on his right hand in the previous day’s game and was left out of the starting lineup for this match, but Ohtani led the team to victory. The fifth inning was 0-0. In his third at-bat after striking out in his second, he swung hard at the first curveball thrown by Cardinals starter Sonny Gray. The 113.5 mph (about 183 km/h) ball quickly flew into the right field stands. His 39th solo goal, his second in two games, turned out to be the winning goal. This home run puts him on pace to hit 50 homers for the year, and he currently has 37 stolen bases, putting him on pace for 48 stolen bases for the year. He is on track to become the first player in major league history to not only hit 45 home runs and 45 stolen bases, but also achieve the incredible feat of 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. In his first at-bat he struck out swinging, in his second he hit a fly out to third base, in his fourth he struck out looking, and in his fifth he grounded out to first base. Dodgers starter Kershaw pitched well, allowing no runs in six innings. In the fifth inning, the batting line responded with a solo homer from Ohtani, and with two outs and runners on first and third, Rojas hit a timely single to left field to score the second run. In the eighth inning, third pitcher Hudson came in as a pinch hitter and allowed a solo home run to Nootbar, but the team managed to hold on by one point.
>>2 He hit a leadoff home run that led to a 2-1 victory But his batting average dropped again with 1 hit in 5 at-bats He didn’t get on base so he didn’t steal any bases The expectations are just too high though.
I thought they were in a slump because they were blaming the manager for not hitting when they had the chance, but it’s amazing. Just how high are their expectations? lol.
He’s a great guy who refrained from participating in minor sports during the Olympics. An unknown, very minor soccer player who wasn’t able to make the most of his talent lol.
He’s hitting a good number of home runs, but a season batting average of over 30% is so hopeless that it’s disheartening. I wanted him to become a player like Judge, who can hit a lot of home runs while maintaining a batting average of 30%.
Even in Japan, players who hit both home runs and hits at a high level like Kondo and Gita are preferred over players like Yamakawa who only hit home runs. I don’t like hitters who hit only home runs, even if I don’t mind giving up on batting average.
