It was revealed on the 31st that the Japan High School Baseball Federation is considering introducing a “7-inning system” with a view to implementing it in the near future. The idea has emerged as one way to combat the heat, and according to sources, a review committee that includes former coaches and doctors has already met several times to discuss the matter. If the new system is introduced, official high school baseball games across the country, including the spring and summer Koshien tournaments, will be shifted from nine innings to seven innings. The final decision rests with the Board of Directors. Measures to prevent heatstroke are essential at summer regional tournaments and the national championships, and at the national championships that will open at Koshien Stadium on August 7 this year, a “two-part system” will be introduced for the first time for the first three days only, with three games played each day in the morning and evening. Starting last year, a “cooling time” was introduced after the fifth inning where players could hydrate and take other measures. The Summer Koshien tournament is typically played with four games per day, but with a seven-inning format, each game would last about an hour and a half, making it entirely possible to play four games per day in two parts. They are looking to use this summer's two-division system as a test to explore the feasibility of it. For the full text, see source. Last updated: August 1st (Thurs) 9:01.
>>7 The youth soccer final was postponed due to yesterday's torrential rain, so it was an irregular 40-minute single game, and it turned out to be incredibly fun. I think it's okay to shorten any sport. You can use your full power, the game is more interesting, and there are only benefits for the spectators.
This would give weak teams that have to rely on one ace a chance, and I think it would make the tournament more interesting, with more surprises and health issues.
If we divided the tournament into two blocks and held the matches at Koshien and Jingu Stadium or Tokyo Dome respectively until the finals, the tournament time could be halved.
Please make both games night games. The sight of high school baseball players losing and crying because their dreams have been shattered makes me want to drink. And the idea of some of those high school baseball players with shattered dreams not giving up on baseball but going on to become pro players known as monsters makes me want to drink even more.
I guess if you're obsessed with things like the seven inning system and Koshien, you end up thinking like that. Your thinking seems to be rigid. I'm also against abolishing the nine-inning format in baseball, and I think this is typical of the bad thinking of Japan, where traditional culture is holding us back as we cannot keep up with the rapid changes in the weather and the times.
