Paris Olympics Japan reaches the milestone of 20 gold medals → confirms third place in the medal rankings! Enters the world’s top three following the Tokyo Olympics.
On August 11th local time, the Paris Olympics reached its 16th and final day, with the entire competition schedule almost complete with only the women’s basketball final (USA vs. France) remaining. On the final day, Japan’s wrestling athletes, Kiyooka Kotaro in the men’s 65 kg class and Kagami Yuto in the women’s 76 kg class, both won gold medals. With a total of 20 medals, Japan finished the tournament in third place in the official medal rankings, overtaking Australia, which had 18 medals. This year’s tournament saw the awards reach a total of 45 medals: 20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze. This is a remarkable run that has seen the team make it into the top three, following on from the last Tokyo Olympics. Both the 20 gold medals and the total of 45 medals are new records for the most medals won outside of Japan. In the official medal rankings, in the event of a tie in the number of gold medals, the rankings will be determined in the following order: silver → bronze. As of 10 p.m. Japan time on Sunday, China was in first place, but if second-placed USA wins the women’s basketball final, they could overtake them, so the outcome of this dead heat will remain uncertain until the very end. Below are the top 10 medal rankings (as of 10 p.m.) and their breakdown: *For more information, please see the source below 8/11 (Sun) 22:15 the digest *Previous thread.
It’s strange that even though the birthrate is declining and the population is aging, we’re seeing more medals than ever before, our soccer team is strong, and Shohei Otani is on the scene.
