[Fraud] 63 members of a Chinese fraud group arrested in Thailand for investment fraud targeting Japanese people, soliciting false investments of 500 million yen via LINE
In a case in which 63 Chinese nationals were arrested in Thailand in March this year for repeatedly committing investment fraud against Japanese people, it has now been revealed that the damage caused in Japan so far has amounted to nearly 500 million yen. In March, Thai police arrested 51 Chinese and 12 Thai nationals for allegedly committing fraud against Japanese people by sending false investment solicitations via LINE. Interviews with senior investigators have revealed that the group has so far caused approximately 40 cases of damage and provided advice within Japan, and that it is believed to have defrauded nearly 500 million yen. The group misused accounts in the names of Japanese individuals and Japanese corporations, as well as accounts in the names of foreigners at Japanese financial institutions, as transfer destinations. The National Police Agency then requested that the Thai police carry out “vicarious punishment” by pursuing criminal charges under local law. Also, a conference on countermeasures against cross-border fraud has been held in Tokyo since yesterday, bringing together representatives from 20 countries, and the National Police Agency is working to promote cooperation in international investigations.
>>1 If you’re so ignorant that you still use LINE, there’s no way to prevent damage.

In Japan, only idiots have money. We people with free time are glued to the internet, so we’re well informed and smart, and we rarely fall for this kind of scam.
The surefire route is to send a DM on social media and then link to a group chat on LINE. Foreigners who talk to you in a friendly manner in broken Japanese are usually suspicious. There’s no point in spending time and effort to deepen your friendship if you’ll never meet in real life.
Japanese people are not used to crime, so they never thought they would become victims of crime, and were shocked. I read an article that said 5.6 people a year commit suicide at a fraud victim association. What’s global, what’s multicultural coexistence, what’s a technical intern trainee, raw, creampie.
>>33 No, it won’t. A long time ago, a Chinese exchange student entered a robbery in Fukuoka Prefecture for money and brutally murdered a family of four (including two elementary school children). One of them survived and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Also, all Japanese drug traffickers were executed in China.
