The “Japan’s No. 1 Imo-ni Festival,” a seasonal autumn event in Yamagata, is being held in Yamagata city. This year marks the 36th anniversary of Japan’s No. 1 Imonikai Festival. Approximately 30,000 servings of imoni will be served, made using a huge pot 6.5 meters in diameter and containing 3.2 tons of taro, 1.2 tons of beef, and other ingredients. Despite the bad weather today, many people, including tourists from outside the prefecture, are enjoying the piping hot imoni. *For the full article and video, please see the following source: 2024/09/15 13:34 yts Yamagata Television.

Do you cook it from scratch?
I don’t like pre-cooked meat.

Potatoes lol.

Isn’t it a little hot?

This event marks the start of the Imoni-kai season, so it’s being held earlier than the peak of the Imoni-kai season.
Previously it was held on the first Sunday of September, but it was so hot that people were likely to die, so we held it a little later.
I already had a work-related Imoni-kai yesterday lol.

Do it in the winter, you idiot.

I don’t know the name, but they stir the cauldron with heavy machinery. Just thinking about it makes me want to puke.

I always buy a new one, take it apart, wash off the oil, turn it into butter, and then sell that heavy machinery after the Imo-ni party.

Are you talking about a backhoe?

Ah, the fake one with beef in it.

When I think of Yamagata, I think of taro root, oshin, and mats.

It’s a confusing word, as if the words kai and festival overlap lol.

Is backhoe grease tasty?

Every year we prepare new cooking oil and sell it after use, so we make a profit.

Is it okay in the rain?

It tastes like earth and iron.

The story goes that when a guest said he wanted to eat his fill of yams, the villagers gave the order and brought lots of them.

The story I learned in elementary school Japanese class was about a crown prince or an emperor.
He was served sweet potato porridge at a private home and it was so delicious that he said he wanted to try a bowl of it.
After that, he was only served sweet potato porridge, so he said he didn’t want any more.
0016Anonymous Donburako.Sep. 15, 2024 (Sun) 14:48:02.23ID:(2/2)
Grease and oil are edible after all.
0017Anonymous Donburako.Sep. 15, 2024 (Sun) 14:48:16.87ID:rHePHr/L0(1/2)
I thought it was potato but it’s actually taro. Still, 30,000 servings is amazing.

Imoni-kai is an event that I want to go to at least once before I die. Rain is better than heat, isn’t it?

In the past, it would have been a good time to hold a potato stew party when the weather started to cool down a little, but now it’s just too hot to eat hotpot in just a T-shirt. Summer in Yamagata is tough.

Miyagi: “It’s autumn, let’s have a potato stew party.”
Yamagata: “Oh, I just got some beef sent over from my parents’ house, so I’ll provide it.”
Miyagi, Akita, Fukushima, Iwate: “Wait LOL beef LOL”
Yamagata: “What do you mean, I get it.” Then I’ll go buy some taro.”
Sanriku: “What taro? It’s potatoes.”
Akita: “I’ll put in Hinai Jidori chicken for now.”
Miyagi, Yamagata, Fukushima, Iwate: “No way lol.”
Sanriku: “What kind of fish do you put in? Shellfish?”
Miyagi, Yamagata, Fukushima, Iwate, Akita: “A hotpot, huh lol.”
Asahi-cho: “Just dried cod is fine for seafood.”
Miyagi: “Sanriku, Asahi-cho, minorities, stay quiet.”
Iwate: “Hey Yamagata! What soy sauce are you putting in?”
Miyagi, Akita: “Uwaaaah… this guy is the worst.”
Fukushima: “Well, it’s fine, let’s blend in some miso too.”
Akita: “I’ll put in some Kiritanpo for now.”
Aomori: “What are you guys doing?”
Miyagi, Yamagata, Fukushima, Iwate, Akita: “Shut up if you don’t do potato stew.”

Sometimes I want to make and eat taro root, but Aji Marujuu is not sold in Nagoya. I have no choice but to use sukiyaki sauce, but it still doesn’t taste right.

This is an event that could be held in other prefectures if they wanted to, but the Japanese people have always stuck to Yamagata, and we should be proud of that.
